Audio File Inspector
Check audio duration, channels, sample rate and signal levels locally in your browser.
Inspect an audio file
Your audio stays in this browser. Nothing is uploaded.
Measurement results
| Channel | Peak (dBFS) | RMS (dBFS) | Full-scale samples |
|---|
Measurements use decoded audio. The browser may resample it, and decoded channels can differ from the source. Original sample rate and channel count are read only from a valid WAV header.
Full-scale detection counts decoded samples at or above ±1. It does not detect all distortion, inter-sample peaks or clipping below full scale. RMS is not LUFS loudness.
About Audio File Inspector
Inspect a local audio file's duration, decoded channels, sample peak and RMS level. Read original sample rate and channel count from WAV headers.
Features
- Local audio-file decoding without uploading
- Duration, file size and decoded channel information
- Original sample rate and channels from WAV headers
- Overall and per-channel sample peak and RMS levels
- Count of decoded samples reaching or exceeding full scale
How to Use
- Choose a supported audio file smaller than 100 MB.
- Wait for decoding and sample analysis to finish.
- Review the file information and per-channel levels.
- Compare the original WAV header rate with the analysis rate; the browser may resample audio.
- Choose another file or use Clear file to remove the result.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my audio uploaded?
No. The tool reads and analyses the selected file locally in your browser.
Which formats can I inspect?
Decoding depends on your browser. WAV and MP3 are common choices; other formats may also be supported.
Is the analysis sample rate the original file rate?
Not necessarily. Web Audio may resample the file. The original rate is shown separately when a valid WAV header is available.
Does this detect all clipping?
No. It counts decoded samples at or above full scale. Clipping below full scale, distortion and inter-sample peaks require other analysis.
Is RMS the same as LUFS?
No. RMS measures signal level without the frequency weighting and gating used for LUFS loudness.
Browser Requirements
A modern browser with JavaScript, File API and Web Audio decoding support.
