284 genres · ranges are approximateTap at least twice to display genres matching your BPM.
Tap at least twice at a steady pace. An extended pause starts a new measurement on the next tap. The previous BPM remains visible during inactivity; the metronome follows the latest measured BPM. Genre ranges are broad conventions, not classification rules. Dubstep may be felt at half-time.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does Tap Tempo BPM Calculator do?
It estimates beats per minute from the time intervals between consecutive taps.
How many taps do I need?
Two taps produce an initial estimate, but several steady taps generally provide a more useful reading.
Why might the displayed BPM be half or double the actual tempo?
A listener may tap every second beat or twice per beat. The calculator shows half-time and double-time values for comparison.
Does Tap Tempo listen to my microphone or analyze uploaded music?
No. It only measures your manual tap timing and does not request microphone access or upload audio.
What happens when I click a genre?
A genre with a numeric tempo range sets the BPM to the rounded midpoint of that range and synchronizes the metronome if sound is on. Genres with variable or unspecified tempos cannot set the BPM.
Can BPM tell me a track's genre?
No. Genre tempo ranges overlap and vary. The genre browser includes all 284 names from the supplied taxonomy; automatic matches apply only where a usable numeric BPM range is provided.
What happens if I stop tapping?
The last BPM remains visible and the metronome continues while Sound is enabled. A pause longer than 2.5 seconds starts a new tap sequence when you resume.
Is Tap Tempo free, and does it require installation?
It runs directly in a modern browser without installation.
