GENETIC BPM CORE

Frequently Asked Questions

What does BPM mean?

BPM stands for beats per minute and describes the tempo of music.

Are these BPM ranges strict rules?

No. They are typical reference ranges; individual tracks can fall outside them, and tempo alone does not define a genre.

Does this tool measure the BPM of an audio file?

No. It filters a reference list of genres and subgenres by their typical tempo ranges; it does not analyze audio.

Why do some variable or beatless styles remain visible?

Entries without a numeric tempo range remain visible because BPM cannot meaningfully filter them. Variable-tempo entries with a stated numeric range are filtered by that range.

What does 300+ BPM mean?

At the maximum slider position, the upper limit is open: styles above 300 BPM remain eligible. The sliders do not select an exact tempo above 300 BPM.

How are matching styles selected?

A style remains visible when its reference range overlaps your selected interval. This does not mean every track in that style uses the selected tempo.

Why do some genres have no subgenres listed?

The reference follows the site's electronic music taxonomy. Some genres are intentional leaves; subdivisions are not added simply to fill a third level.
